Based in West Yorkshire, Gayle McCabe is a print and pattern designer inspired by florals , botanicals and her love for nature which flows throughout most of her work. Each season inspires new ideas and colour palettes that nourish her imagination.
Her creative process starts with photographs of plants and textures, followed by highly detailed hand-drawn sketches and either traditional watercolours or digital painting. Gayle’s style is far from abstract, and loves detailed floral patterns with a contemporary twist.
This love of sketching and painting started when she was knee high to a grasshopper with influences from a father who was a Printer and grandmother who was an Indian Ink artist, you could see how it was only fitting that she also had a calling to follow down a similar artistic path.
These designs were motivated from family trip to Florida, where she decided to take full advantage of the subtropical landscape and the ever presence of giant, lush green plants which exude an array of rich intense colours.
Florida’s climate can change quickly from stifling humid conditions, to torrential rain (literally within hours) thus creating the perfect atmosphere for palms, flora and botanicals to flourish and show off their exuberant rainbow of colours and spiky shaped leaves.
This collection for Pattern and Picture encapsulates her experience amongst some of Florida’s most amazingly beautiful plants topped with plenty of tropical Floridian colour and texture.
